July 31, 2012

This has been a rough year for my family. We have lost 3 family members and I lost a very dear friend.

There has not been very much creativity going on, but I am about to change that.
I took some time to myself to enjoy working on a waterfall challenge with a group I belong to. I kept putting it off until yesterday. I got at it and got so wrapped up in it that I didn't go to bed until I finished it. I did a waterfall picture from memory of falls I had seen many years ago. I think it turned  out pretty good as it was my first attempt of waterfalls.
In  May my Mom came to visit me for a couple of weeks. I had the best visit with her. Her Aunt Maude was turning 100 when she went home and she asked me to make her something for her special birthday. I made a pillow for her to give her. It turned out great.
I have been asked to make a quilt for a friend and that is what I have been trying to get motivated to finish. It is on my longarm and all I have left to do is the border. It sure has taken along time to get this quilt done. I will post pictures of it when it is complete.

I have a few quilts of my own I wish to get done as well. Where does all the time go?

My oldest son Tyler has told me he wants my Canada quilt that I made a few years back. I have yet to quilt it, but now I know he wants it I will finish it soon.

I went fishing for the first time ever a couple of weeks ago and caught my very first fish, a 4 pound walleye. My husband said he may take me often if I can catch that all the time.

Last night we had the best supper ever. It has been a long time since we made this. It was great and I thought I'd share a pic of it. Take a guess as to what is in it. I wasn't able to put in shrimp, as I have developed an allergy to shrimp. That is not good, as I LOVE shrimp.

I have to say "A day without sewing, is a wasted day" author unknown. I just love that saying.

So much to learn!

Well it has been awhile! I wasn't sure how to add a new blog. lol This is so new to me, but here I am.  I guess I figured it out.

I have been working on a couple of quilts this past month. I did a tube quilt top for a twin bed out of reproduction fabrics, but haven't quilted it yet. I just fell in love with the way this is done. Lots of fun. Check out utube, as that is where I learned how to do it.

I also did a few quilts for a friend on the longarm. I think I am getting better but will have to wait to see if she is pleased with what I've done.

Last night I did an embroidery design. Wow! I used designs given to me by Hazel from Graceful Embroidery. She has a wonderful site and her designs are beautiful. Again check out her site. You won't regret it if you do machine embroidery. She has many free designs, as well as competitions to earn even more. You can of course also buy her designs sets at a great price.

I am now working on a couple of Christmas blocks for our guilds retreat at the end of the month. I love going there with the girls. We have so much fun there with sewing , chatting and of course eating but not having to cook. We also have a little wine on the first night. Trent Valley Guild gals are a great bunch of ladies. The thing I love most about this group is the comfort quilts they work on and give to the sick, injured, or anyone in need, because of a fire or disaster. They have made baby quilts for premies at the hospital in Kingston. They have made them for Mothers of our fallen soldiers, as well as some of the injured soldiers. So what's not to like about ladies who give so much. I do keep good company. LOL

Now for a tip: HST(Half square triangles) can be very easy if you use the method I use. It is like paper peicing. Go to  http:www.QuiltingAndWhatnot.com and you can get all sizes upto 2 1/2" from their site. The best part is its free!

You all enjoy your sewing and come back for more tips.
